Laura Dekker Endorsement
Laura holds the record as the youngest person to solo circumnavigate the world at just age 16 in a 40’ ketch, but only after a highly publicized court battle in the Netherlands. Having first sailed a MiniCat whilst on her voyage, Laura has become a fan, owner, and ambassador, even helping to design the 420 Laura Dekker Limited Edition.

About the Manufacturer
Since it’s inception in 2006, MiniCat has been handcrafting each boat with pride in the Czech Republic with European-sourced materials and components from partner manufacturers such as Ronstan, Seasure, Clamcleat, Suchomel, etc. Everything else is manufactured in-house. Their high standards of quality are evident in their casted aluminum frame pieces, laser-cut sail panels, beveled aluminum joints…the list goes on. These boats are built to last.

-
24 month manufacturer’s limited warranty on defects and workmanship, and as of November 2023, a 7 year manufacturer’s limited warranty on the pontoons for defects and workmanship. It does not cover misuse, intentional or accidental damage, nor normal wear & tear. Click here for full details on what’s covered or not. For peace of mind, Sailing Awaits now offers optional protection plans by Extend which covers accidental damage.
-
The holding power of the CL257 Auto-Release Racing Mini ClamCleat is adjustable. Watch this video or download the product manual.
-
Your jib luff may be sagging too much, causing the jib to luff earlier than it ought to. The wire luff should be straight and bear all the load from the sails, not the forestay. The forestay is only a backup, in case the jib halyard fails. For a tight jib luff, over-tighten the forestay, hoist the jib and cleat the halyard, then back-off the forestay. Adjust your rig tension appropriately for the windspeed and sailing conditions.
-
You may be turning the tiller too far, causing it to act as a brake. Another tip is to allow the jib to backwind to bring the bow across before releasing and sheeting on the proper side.
-
Keep in mind that the pontoons sit high on the water with little wetted surface. With their long keel fins, MiniCats track very well, even when flying the windward pontoon.
-
Our best speed in a MiniCat 420 is around 12 knts. Keep in mind these are class D sailboats, rated for Beaufort 4 winds (up to 16kts).
